Should you buy an RTX5090?

Should you buy an RTX5090?

TLDR: If you're a gamer, no. Definitely not.

But you ask, why not? OK here's the detail.

£2000 is a lot of money. The end. Just kidding! :) But really, it's a LOT of money. You can buy an entire PC that can play games pretty well for £2000. We sell plenty of custom gaming PCs which will run the latest games at decent FPS, resolutions and at high settings for even £1500. So why would you pay £2000 for just the GPU? Only if you're a professional user and you'll make money from using your 5090. This GPU is a productivity BEAST! 32GB VRAM, almost 2gb/s memory bandwidth and plenty of AI performance means it's going to crush any productivity task you set it. I would recommend users of Blender, Unreal 5, and Unity take a look at this card, it's going to give you so much time back in terms of rendering speed.

As a gamer though? I wouldn't recommend it. The 5080, not to mention the 4080 and the RX7900XTX will still run your games at lightning speeds and at half the cost! Or in terms of the RX7900XTX more like 35% of the cost! If you're somebody that just wants the best, no matter what, then sure. it's a great card, the best ever. Go for it! Your purchase isn't 'wrong', it's just crazy in my mind that a £2000 GPU even exists. It wasn't too long ago that the 1080ti came out at £699. NVIDIA has done a masterful marketing job, moving the goalposts so that gamers are willing to pay £2000 for just one part of their PC, you can get a used car for that price!

We're manufacturer agnostic at Gamertech, but I just couldn't not speak up about this. I think £2000 is just too much and I won't be recommending the 5090 unless it's to a professional user.

Let's see how the 5080 and 5070 come out in the reviews. Given the specs and prices, I'm not hopeful :(
